Special-edition: Imprinted Mater
Looiersgracht 60 regularly produces limited-edition paperbacks to accompany its exhibition programme. Each volume is a bespoke, limited edition pocket book, designed by the London-based Studio Veronica Ditting. The collections of essays by specialist writers from a variety of cultural, creative and academic backgrounds furnish each book with a multidisciplinary and integrative context that underpins the featured artist’s work. Typically, 500 copies are produced.
The first 50 copies of our limited edition publication, Imprinted Mater/Materia impresa, form an exciting special edition. Hand-numbered and signed, these books also feature a small unique artwork by Zito Lema. These artworks continue to explore the themes of the exhibition and are handmade paper with black ink.
Imprinted Mater/Materia impresa was published in conjunction with Aimée Zito Lema’s solo exhibition ‘Imprinted Mater’, held at Looiersgracht 60 in 2017. The publication was made in close collaboration with the artist and boasts an insightful image section comprising multiple research images, images of work in progress and new works made specifically for this publication. Contributors include LA based curator Sohrab Mohebbi, writer and the former director of the National Library of Argentina Horacio González, poet and artist Maria Barnas and writer and psychoanalyst Marcelo Percia. Each approaches Zito Lema’s work from their own unique perspective, exploring in particular the relationship between her work, memory and image. The publication also features a foreword written by Soraya Notoadikusumo and Nadine Snijders (directors of Looiersgracht 60).
